1.Online payment(Alipay, WeChat, Shanghai Transportation Card APP)
Alipay Transit QR Code, Tencent Transit QR Code, and NFC Mobile Public Transportation Card can be bound and top-up with foreign bank cards, allowing you to pay fares directly online when taking public transportation.
(1)Alipay Transit QR Code can be used to take buses, ferries, and subways within the city of Shanghai. Users can open their "Alipay App - Travel", show their QR code to the scanning device on the public transportation system to take a ride without pre-charging, and enjoy the "Ride first, pay later" service for a convenient travel experience.
(2)The "Shanghai Transportation Card APP" also has a transit QR code, simply open the "Shanghai Public Transportation Card APP - Transit QR Code" when you take public transportation in Shanghai.
(3)Foreigners can use the "Tencent Transit Code" on WeChat with an English interface. Open "WeChat - Me - Settings - General - Language - English", then search for "Tencent Transit Code" or long-press and scan the image below to open the code. Like the Shanghai Public Transportation Code, the Tencent Transit Code also supports password-free payment and “pay-after-you ride”.
(4)NFC Mobile Public Transportation Card
You can use the mobile transportation card service in "Shanghai Public Transportation Card APP", if your mobile phone is equipped with NFC function to bind your foreign card for top-up purposes. Open "Shanghai Public Transportation Card APP - Home - Top-up" and choose the WeChat or Alipay channel to bind the foreign bank card.
2.Offline payment
There are many offline service counters and stations in Shanghai where you can purchase and top-up physical transportation cards , and there are staff providing professional guidance and timely solutions for foreigners in need. Currently, Pudong and Hongqiao international airports also have physical transportation card sales service counters and supports foreign bank card payment.Foreigners can also top-up their physical transportation cards through Customer Value Management (CVM) self-service top-up kiosks, which allow them to choose from bank cards with the UnionPay logo, as well as Weixin Pay and Alipay, which are bound to their foreign bank cards. After selecting the top-up channel, align the payment QR code with the scanning port to top up.
3.Launch of "Shanghai Pass"
To increase the quality of China's inbound tourism experience, Shanghai launched a new "Shanghai Pass" on May 19. The "Shanghai Pass" has three features and four advantages, effectively connecting various consumer scenarios such as transportation and travel, cultural and tourism venues, and supermarket shopping in the city. "Shanghai Pass is a physical anonymous card.
It can be used for public transport in Shanghai and more than 330 cities across China, selected tourist attractions, cultural and exhibition venues, shopping malls, supermarkets, convenience stores and other consumer payments within Shanghai.
